Seems to be working OK here, it did take a long time to download on my slow dial up line.

No problems installing, although my AVG toolbar is beneath the tabs so I have trouble finding which web page I want to switch to. _________________

Nancy I am at the lake now and the dial up here still uses the old Prodigy number and most times I connect at 26.4, but once in a while at 28.8. Will be back home later tonight and 49.6 usually there. It has the new ATT number there.

I've been having trouble with lock ups. I have to use task manager to restart! If I try cancelling, it goes into a loop with 100% CPU utilization. Somewhat of a pain!! _________________ John... |

hi Nan - haven't been on in quite a while and I just saw this post of yours. I upgraded to IE8 and I think I'm sorry I did.
Everytime I go to the web, I get a blue top . . . "Search Provider Default" --- "a program on your computer has corrupted your default search provider setting for IE ... IE has reset to your orig search provider, Live Search...will now open search...you can chn the setting or add more search providers." I click ok, or the red X (doesn't matter which one I click) and get another blue top -- "Manage Add-ons"...I get a list of my so-called search providers (4 of 'em), Live Search is shown as default status, all 4 are "enabled". I X out of it and finally can go on my merry way.
It's not that big a problem but is a FRIGGIN' NUISANCE! ! !
Any suggestions/solution?? _________________ ~Dolores in Long Beach CA |

The only Microcrap software I choose to use is Windows. The trouble is that a component of windows is IE. If you're looking for big trouble try uninstalling IE. I use Firefox and Thunderbird as an alternative to IE and OE. My problem was that IE 8 upgraded itself and hijacked all my default programs. I finally got it all back the way I had it but not without a lot of grief. I think anyone could tell that I despise anything to do with Microcrap. I am convinced that they put these bugs into there software to goof things up and then you'll use there inferior product. _________________ Some people are like a Slinky.....not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs. |

Dolores... bummer! I sure don't have any solutions because I don't have a lot of experience wtih "fixing" things.
I haven't upgraded to IE8 and maybe I won't now. <G>
Thanks everyone for the replies. |

Have you tried to remove IE 8 from your computer? It may be possible to roll back to IE 7. That is what I would do first. It's listed in Control Panel on my computer in the add/remove programs applet. _________________

I'm back! . . . . went to "add/remove programs"
Scrolled all the way down to the end and saw "Windows Internet Explorer 8", only saw an option to disable, with no choice as to which version, for removing AOL it asks which version.
If I click to disable IE8, won't I be completely out of Internet?
Am I the only one with this problem??? _________________ ~Dolores in Long Beach CA |

I don't think they completely removed the older version. When you select disable, you should still have internet explorer on there. _________________ Roger Stegman
