What are current movies you recommend? I have to say the critics & those nominating movies for Oscars are usually not in sync w/my taste, tho I did like The Hurt Locker.
Here are a few I've seen & liked for various reasons...
State of Play no doubt Ben Affleck's best role as politician. It is a newspaper, politician, corruption story that may be truer than we know.
Amelia Most of us are mystified by the Earhart story..this is just a good retelling with an excellent cast. Filmed in South Africa.
Which brings to mind Invictus which may be the best picture I've seen in ages. Mandela and quieting unrest.
There are others that I have enjoyed...what do you choose when you go to Blockbuster or Netflix or Redbox? Frankly, I get mine free at the local library.

Linda, I haven't watched a movie except what's on TV for years. I'm content to watch old black & whites, reruns of things I've seen and wait till something comes to TV. I did go to movies every Saturday growing up.
The only thing I've watched that would be fairly recent is the Harry Potter movies. I like to watch documentaries on the DOC channel or PBS. I watched one last night about when the Berlin wall came down. I've seen others but hadn't seen this one.
When I see the current crop of actors/acresses on TV, Entertainment tonight, the news, etc. they don't seem like "real" actors to me. I guess my age is showing. |

I usually keep a list of movies I'd like to see, wait for them to come out on DVD and then check them out from the local library. It is the same movie that it was 6 months previously and I save myself $8-10.
My all-time favorite movie was Shawshank Redemption.

I watched a good (old) movie last week. It was Two Weeks with Sally Fields. About a woman dying and her children's varied ways of dealing with things. |

My all time favorite movie was
KILLER CLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE.
It took a dumb idea, done it bad, and it worked!!!! _________________ Roger Stegman

Roger, it is hard to pick just one movie as an all time favorite, but I go back to my original all time favorite all the time, Meet Me in St. Louis. I think I was 9 years old when it came out...I have always loved it & still do, & watched it recently.
I have some "stars" that I like & I search for them just like an author at the library...such as, Redford, Robert & see what is there. Maybe there is one I missed. Also Streep, Meryl. I'm with you, Sherry, the library is the place to go for latest DVDs. I had It's Complicated before HBO.
I grew up going to the movies & I still love them, my sisters are the same way, we email each other good movies to watch. I had some DVRed this week, but on watching a few minutes of every one of them, deleted them & started reading. I'm sure that is a better pursuit.
Keep watching/reading. aloha, Linda |
