The sound in my computer has died. Even the 'normal' computer sounds aren't there even tho the control panel says everything is on and turned up.
My computer came with a keyboard that has controls for a number of things including sound but I don't know if that's contributing to the problem.
Is it kosher to hook up another keyboard to see if the sound returns?
Any suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanx. |

I have one computer that won't give sound. I found two computers stopped having sound and learned that MUTE was on for some reason.
If you got spare equipment, check everything, sound card, keyboard, speakers, cables. Do the easy stuff first and eliminate what you can. If after all that, it does not work, then maybe someone can give you a better answer. I will listen too. _________________ Roger Stegman

Jim, try unplugging and replugging the jack from your speakers. This normally will cause a click or some static in the speakers. If you hear something you will know that the speakers are working. Sometimes flipping the settings on and off will clear a problem, like setting MUTE on the various sections and then unMuting them. I assume you have probably tried powering off and on (pull the plug or turn off the power supply switych to remove ALL power from the motherboard. _________________ Bob Bainbridge |

Thank you all for your input.
In that this lasted several days I'd done just about everything mentioned other than opening the computer. The internal diagnostic program said everything was working just fine.
I'd also found software "upgrades" for Vista sound on both HP and MS locations which I d/l but they didn't seem to do anything.
Then this morning, expecting an early AM fax< I turned on my computer and lo and behold that little welcoming "chirp" reappeared. So something worked.
Hows that for a scientific explanation?
Again, thank you all for the much appreciated support. |
